Black Hat can actually work as far as driving traffic but it always opens a can of worms eventually because the fears backing it erode morals, ethics and pretty much leads to a lack of credibility. Perhaps you drive some folks to your site but Google catches up eventually, and, readers do too. White hat SEO is the only sane choice because you build cred versus losing it, you enjoy helping people and overall, your success will accelerate over the long haul if you stick to it

    • So true, Ryan. When you read a site that’s using Black Hat techniques, the content often reads choppy and unnatural, especially the ones focused on using keyword stuffing. When I worked at an agency in Greenville, SC, there was a competitor who outranked us (this was 2014). I dug through their site during a competitive analysis, and I realized they stuffed the keywords “content marketing Greenville SC” into pages over and over again. That was great for a bit, but then Google updated its algorithm, and that competitor’s website dropped from search engine existence. 🙂
