Design thinking is a relatively new concept in the business world. It only started to make its appearance in the second half of the twentieth century, and mostly influenced architecture and engineering at that time.

At some point, experts realized that design thinking was more than just a creative approach; it was something that could be analyzed and made into a science, and used to tackle what could be extremely complex problems, often called wicked problems.

These are tricky obstacles that require collaboration and deep thinking. They cannot be done in a vacuum and must be approached layering in the understanding of a multitude of individuals and specialists.

Using design thinking has been and continues to be adopted by a wide range of companies to their success. For example, Airbnb uses it to address any issues of insecurity or lack of trust with people renting a home that isn’t their own.

What’s unique about design thinking is that it also challenges those in charge to rethink how they are assembling teams and solving problems. They must focus on diversity and work to remove obstacles, first and foremost.
