7 Tips to Drive More Traffic to Your Business Blog

Having a blog on your business website is crucial if you want to leverage the power of search and organic traffic to its full potential. A blog helps your business to create trust among your customers and establishes your authority in your business domain.

Blogging increases your chances of being discovered on the web when your potential clients search for the services that you offer.

It’s not just having a blog section that will drive more traffic to your website, however.  There are a few things that you need to do right for the best results from your blogging efforts.

Here are 7 things you can do to drive more traffic to your business blog:

  1. Create Content that Wows

It might sound obvious and you must have heard that content is the king in blog SEO, but with each passing day. While it may sound cliche, it truly is becoming super challenging to rank anything on your site without great content.

Also, if you’re writing about things that have already been published 1,000 times on other websites, you’ll find it hard to rank. To make the most of your blogging efforts, write posts that are unique, new, fills gaps in existing content and show your authority in your field.

If people find your content valuable, they’ll share it and links and rank will come naturally.

Keep in mind, writing SEO content that ranks is not impossible.

  1. Use Relevant Keywords

Keywords are words, terms or phrases that users type in search engines when they search for something. Work keywords naturally into your content that are relevant to the subject matter and to what searchers will be seeking.

There are many keyword research tools that you can use to find the best keywords for your content.

Also, don’t forget to utilize the power of long-tail keywords. Using keywords in your post URLs helps search engines to understand your content.

  1. Add Images to Your Blog Post

People don’t expect your blogs to be a string of unending text. Adding visual elements to your blog posts makes them engaging.

Consider adding 2-3 images to each blog post you publish on your website. You can also add infographics and charts to your posts, wherever they add value.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to write alt tags for each image and save the images with a relevant keyword name.

  1. Link to High Quality Sites

Linking your site to high quality sites that do the same business as you will help you rank higher in the search results. High quality backlinks tell search engines that your website has authority.

Whenever you present some data, tools or facts, provide your readers with the source, that will increase your credibility.

You may worry, at first, about linking out to other content that exists off your website, but it’s hugely important to your SEO. Don’t overdo it, but do keep in mind that adding links to authority content on other sites that adds value to your post does sit well with Google.

  1. Write Breathtaking and Eye-Catching Meta Descriptions

Meta descriptions are small pieces of content that you find beneath the search results when you perform a search on the web. They often describe the content of the page that shows in the search result.

Users often read meta descriptions of the search results before clicking on a result.

If you miss writing a meta description for your post, the search engines will randomly select a meta description from your post and it may not be the best to represent what your post is about.

The key is to write meta descriptions that give searchers an idea of what they can expect if they click and entice them to do so.

Therefore, it’s always a recommended thing to write meta descriptions for all your pages and posts.

  1. Make It Easy to Share Your Content

Giving your readers the option to share your posts and link to you through social channels is the easiest thing you can do to improve your search rankings.

Always add an option to share your post to social portals such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Reddit, etc.

Remember, social media is the new word of mouth publicity; your prospective clients would be interested to see what kind of social approval you have.

  1. Hire an SEO Company

Investing in an SEO company yields a high return for your overall business performance. Every penny that you spend to get your website and blog optimized can result in improved traffic and better search rankings.

A thought leader company in the SEO landscape would help you design a long-term content strategy. But before hiring an SEO company, you would want to ask some relevant questions.

It’s good to have an internal marketing team, but if you want to accelerate the speed with which you’re growing, consider hiring an SEO company.

Conclusion

While creating an SEO strategy for your blog, it’s important that you know SEO is a marathon and not a sprint. You’ll take some time to acquire skills and knowledge that will help you make a difference in your rankings.

You’ll need to be patient and keep trying.

    • So true, Ryan. Creating amazing content really opens up opportunity. Link building, for example, is huge for SEO. But if your content is thin and not useful, no one will want to link to it. I think short content can add tons of value as well as long form. When I refer to thin content I mean thin as in the value, not the length. 🙂 But yes, the more thorough the more love you can get from Google!
